When I was little my grandparents subscribed to National Geographic magazine for my brother and me. Every month I spent hours looking at pictures of people and places that seemed so exotic in comparison to the farmlands of Nebraska. After I began taking photographs myself I realized that the color and surprise of the pictures that fascinated me as a child inspired what I wanted my own photographs to express. I visit interesting places now and try to describe them with a camera. I hope my pictures conjure up the magic of a new issue of National Geographic for a young girl in the 1950’s in America’s heartland.
The photos on display here in Pittsburgh were selected because they pop with color and optimism. They were taken in India, Italy, France, Estonia, Belize, and America. This show is called Voyages.
During the summer of 2025 my work was displayed at Atelier du Monestier in Caunes Minervois, France. Some of the photographs you see here were included in that exhibit (which was curated by Nele Boudry and Bob Kimberly). Later in the summer of 2025, I had the honor to join a group presentation (with 12 small photos) at La Forge in Siran France. And just before Christmas, my small photos were presented at L’Ecurie Galerie in Caunes Minervois France as part of a group show.
